Jalapeno Cheese Bread for Bread Machine

"Give me this bread with some wine and I'm a happy girl. It has just the right bite and coarse texture to it. It pairs nicely with anything from chili night to a cocktail party. Love it! These measurements call for a 1 lb. loaf."

  1. Can I substitute the sour cream with mayonnaise or cream cheese?

  2. What size loaf does it make? My machine goes from 1 lb up to 2 lb?

  1. I have made this recipe 4x and I think the bread has turned out pretty good. I am using a Hamilton Beach bread maker on the basic cycle on light crust, 2lbs. The bread comes out really fluffy. It's perfect for chili! I definitely think that you need to add some additional spices. 3 jalapenos fairly deseeded doesn't feel spicy enough to me. I added garlic and onion powder, basil, oregano, thyme, and red pepper flakes. I also increased the chz amount to a cup. I can't taste it as easily but I can smell it baking.

  2. I was just adding this recipe, and ran a search and it's so similar I won't post mine, which has some slight differences (3/4 C Sour Cream, 3 Cups flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, and a full cup of cheese, other that it's all the same) I've been using this for YEARS, and it's one of my very favorite breads. We like to up the jalapenos and also toss in some habaneros. This is some seriously good bread!

  3. Look no further! This is it for a quick and easy gift, especially if it is for a Latin person. After having the recipe since 2015 and never trying it (why???), I made it yesterday to thanks and praise throughout the day today. Now we can't wait to make it again for ourselves! I used pepper jack cheese and two jalapenos. I chopped one jalapeno without removing any seeds or pith (kills the point for me) and sliced the other into rounds after removing seeds and pith. My El Salvadorian friend says it has the perfect amount of "fire" for him. Someone posted the following comment in 2015, which I saved and followed: Mine has some slight differences - 3/4 C Sour Cream, 3 Cups flour, 2 Tbsp sugar, and a full cup of cheese; other that, it's all the same. I've been using this for YEARS, and it's one of my very favorite breads. We like to up the jalapenos and also toss in some habaneros. This is some seriously good bread! No, I did not increase the salt. My greatest change was to reduce the amount of yeast to 1 teaspoon, something I have learned to do with almost all bread machine recipes. We don't like an overwhelming taste of yeast. Make it!

  4. Perfect-o! Tastes amazing!

  5. Green chilies and a sprinkle of hot pepper flakes. The dough was a little dry so I added some egg nog. Then, of course, it was a little wet so I added powered milk and flour. The dough ball looks right now and the mixer tub is clean. I guessed 1.5 lbs. The maker it scooting all over the counter.

I'm married to the love of my life and my high school sweetheart. (Corny, but true..)We have 4 children and everyday is an adventure, for sure. My love for cooking came from my childhood. My grandma made the best huge southern meals without any recipes at all, most of her ingredients coming from her garden. I loved watching her cook. Organic foods are a must and I try to add them to whatever I make for my family. I enjoy going to our local farmers market and making something out of what I've found that day. I love to travel with my family, especially to the ocean. We hope to live by the coast someday....
