Burrito Filling

"This is my burrito filling recipe. I am bad about measuring and even worse about writing it down and changing it as I go. Feel free to taste test this and add stuff that your family enjoys! Please let me know your ideas! This uses my seasoning recipe #166030 166030. If you are using another, use the amounts specified for that particular one. The amount here would equal two, 1.25 store bought packets."

directions

  • Saute onion in a large skillet adding garlic and cilantro during the last minute or two.
  • Add meat and seasonings and stir well. Allow to saute for a minute or two, letting the meat absorb some of the flavors.
  • When it seems that it is really dry and the mixture is starting to stick add the tomatoes and liquid and scrape all the browned bits from the bottom. TONS of flavor there. Add sugar if using. ( The sugar makes the tomatoes taste more like home grown and home canned or even organic).
  • Reduce heat to simmer and cook for 20 minutes or so. When you are ready to use the mixture return heat to high and cook off almost all the liquid so that your filling is not runny or wet.
  • Use to fill tortillas or in a casserole.

  1. my 10 year old tore it up! my 8 and 6 year old liked it but not as much as their older sister. i enjoyed it myself. totally bummed i forgot the cilantro (too much going on!) my boyfriend said it was okay too (and he hardly ever likes my cooking lol) thanks for the beer tip! way better than moistening w/ water :)

  2. This was very tasty!! I only gave it 4 stars instead of 5 because I thought it was a little incomplete for a burrito filling - once I added black beans and sharp cheddar cheese it was perfect! I omitted the onions and used garlic powder instead of cloves but other than that followed the recipe exactly using beef broth and home canned tomatoes. I also used the taco seasoning (made with homemade chili powder made from dried habanero peppers) recipe and loved it! Thanks for sharing!

  3. Great recipe! I used 1 1/2 pounds ground meat instead of the two pounds and left out the cilantro as I didn't have any. Filling still turned out great. I also used the seasoning recipe. Thanks for sharing.

  4. I searched and searched for the perfect burrito filling...this is it! I love the seasoning recipe too. Perfect!

  5. Quick, Easy and Delicious! I used petite diced tomatoes (and used twice as many by accident LOL) instead of the stewed tomatoes. I added about 5 Tablespoons of minced jalapenos to the mix as well. Some like it HOT... and some like it even HOTTER :) Thank you Beautiful for such a fabulous dinner!
