directions

  • Place flour, baking powder and salt in a large bowl. Cut in the shortening, and mix until it resembles course crumbs. Add the water a little at a time, mixing with a fork until the dough pulls together. Form as many 2 in balls from the dough as you can. Cover and let rest 20 minutes.
  • Preheat a dry skillet. Roll each ball out on a lightly floured surface. Cook about 30-45 seconds on each side. Keep warm by placing them in the folds of a clean dish towel. Recipe can be doubled to freeze.

  1. 1st attempt: <br/>let me not rate it just yet, becasue I think I might cook it too long.( I thought I would cook it until the color look like the store-bought tortilla. I certainly cook more than 1 mins each time. The product came out very brittle. i will try again

  2. I have been making my own flour tortillas for burritos for over 35 years. The recipe I use for them I will never change it was handed down to my by my mother but this tortilla recipe is great for eatting in place of bread. It is a thicker more bread like flour tortilla. Perfect for mexican soups..This recipe makes 10 tortillas..I made them again for fiesta mexican night they went well with the mexican casserole I made, spicy refried beans, chicken tortilla soup and mexican fiesta dip...UMMMMM
