Trail Mix

"My kids love to help me make this. Again, this is an awesome lunch box item. If they don't eat this at lunch, they tend to pull it out in the car on the way home - so I don't hear the ongoing whine of "I'm sssstttttaaaaaaarrrrrvvvvvviiinnnnngggg!!!!!" Because peanuts are a high allergen food, I use raw (EFA-rich) almonds and sunflower seeds. Chocolate/carob is not necessary in this recipe. A great substitute is dried cherries, cranberries, or blueberries. Try one of these combos: almond/raisin (simple and tastes like PB&J) almonds/prunes/apricots/sunflower seeds (tastes divine and is a great source of fiber) raw cashews/coconut/dried bananas/raisins and maybe chocolate chips ("Monkey Chow") almonds/sunflower seeds/cherries/bananas (tangy and crunchy)"

  1. Yummy this works well as a snack! I made ours with, raw almonds, I didn't have sunflower seeds on hand so I added some chopped walnuts in their place, I used mainly Sunmaid Thompson raisins, a small amount of Iranian green raisins which are not very sweet, I left out the apricot, used desiccated coconut (I would leave it out next time) & carob chips.

  2. This is a very healthy and yummy trail mix, that I enjoyed snacking on a lot!!!! I used organic sunflower seeds, almonds, raisins and instead of the apricots I used some dried organic mango pieces. Mmmm, soooooo good! THANK YOU SO MUCH for sharing this wonderful healthy snack alternative with us, Feingold Mom! Ill surely make it often again working my way through the variations you mentioned in your introduction. Made and reviewed for Bargain Basement Tag Game May 2010.

I am a homeschooling mother of 8. We have chickens, goats and emus, as well as a year round veggie garden. My children help me cook most of the time, so I tend to look for recipes that are kid friendly and don't take a ton of time to prep. We are a mostly Feingold/Organic family and my main focus is good for you foods, but easy to make with a flair or twist. I experiment a lot with known recipes and I have come up with some amazing ones over the years and love to share with others. My ultimate cake right now is the german chocolate carob cake. My goal in life was to find the perfect sticky toffee pudding recipe. I have now found it in Carol's Sticky Toffee Pudding. This is the most amazing dessert (next to my carob cake) I've ever tasted.
