I bought a Betty Crocker cookbook in the mid 70s before I got married. Still have it, although the front cover is gone! This is the best chocolate chip cookie recipe, better than the one on the toll house package. Sometimes I use a cup of butter and just 1/3 cup Crisco shortening because it’s easier to just use the 2 full butter sticks, but definitely don’t omit the shortening. It makes a difference. My husband is a coconut lover, so I sometimes use shredded coconut instead of nuts.

In my family, we simply call these "Grandma cookies". My entire life, my Grandma has made these and they are incredible. I'm not sure what she does that makes hers that much better than mine (other than the fact that she's 84 and I'm 26, so experience is a factor) but these are gone in minutes at family gatherings. She even sends the grandkids off to college with them. The biggest thing I can say is DOUBLE THE CHOCOLATE CHIPS. It makes them spread a little less and who doesn't like extra chocolate!

Like others here I purchased my Betty Crocker cookbook in the 70s. It was an excellent resource that taught me how to cook. It still contains the best meat loaf recipe in town, a rock star peanut butter cookie recipe, and this iconic chocolate chip cookie recipe. I made this recipe again after trying others that didn't come close. It stands the test of time and is excellent. I believe the magic ingredient is the shortening. BTW my book is now missing pages and cover, and is broken into 3. Wish I could find another!!

I'm always on the look out for new tried and true recipes and love to share the recipes that I enjoy making.
Growing up as a child my mom taught me how to cook/bake and I later entered food competitions at our local fair.
I hope to some day share my love of cooking with my children.
I love to cook casseroles..I'm not a huge fan of meat but will toss it in casseroles for my meat and potato husband. :)
