Inside out Burger

"I came across this recipe idea when my husband & I watched "Man vs. Food" on the Travel Channel about these two restaurants in Minnesota. Anyways, it sounded so good & I was standing in my kitchen with all the ingredients so I tried to make it myself. It turned out very delicious!!!"

  • Heat grill to med-high heat. (We have a Jenn-Air built-in grill on our stove- great for rainy day grilling!)
  • Pat ground chuck into 8 1/4-inch patties.
  • Place on top of one patty 4 quarters of sliced cheese.
  • Top with another patty & crimp the edges so the cheese doesn't melt out while cooking.
  • Repeat Steps 3 & 4.
  • Place on grill & cook 3-4 minutes, flip & cook 3-4 minutes on other side. (If you want the cool grill marks, cook for 1-2 minutes, then do a quarter turn.).
  • Place burger on bun & top wih your favorite burger toppings & enjoy.

  1. Simple burgers with big flavor! I did add a few shakes of lemon pepper and used sliced sharp cheddar cheese instead of american. All the toppings we enjoy, juicy burgers, with corn on the cob on the side equals a fantastic meal. Will make these burgers again! Made and reviewed for PAC Spring 2013.

  2. What a great recipe! Saw this episode too and I think they called it a Juicy Lucy- and appropriately so! I used 92% lean beef and 2% American cheese (which tends to melt quicker) and ended up with cheese distributed throughout the burger making the normally drier lean beef wonderfully juicy. Next time however, I'll splurge on the 80% as suggested and a full-fat slice of American- maybe the white version. Also, your method of quartering the slices keeps all that gooey cheese inside the burger where it belongs. Although this may seem like the simplest of recipes, it's the method here that makes all the difference in the world. If you're a cheeseburger lover and have never tried an inside-out cheeseburger, (aka Juicy Lucy), don't skip this one!!

  3. These were very good! I made them on the grill and they were absolutely lovely! Thanks for sharing such an easy recipe, but also so delightful, when you bite in, be careful as warm cheese will dribble down your chin! Thanks for posting the recipe. Made for Spring PAC 2010.

Mom of 3 (4 if you count my DH) My husband & I work together. He is a chiropractor & do all of his insurance billing. For fun, I am a mom first, so having fun with my kids is fun- but for myself I like reading a good "Chick-Lit" book, or having Mommy Time (when I can fit it in.) My favorite cookbook is any cookbook that isn't elaborate, but nutritious. My passion is my family and living life like tomorrow is its last. My pet peeves are people talking over others (especially me), & eating with their mouth open.
