  • Place first 3 ingredients on an 8" square of cheesecloth; tie with string. Place spice bag in a Dutch oven. Add red wine and remaining 5 ingredients; bring to a simmer over low heat (do not boil). Keep at a simmer while serving. Ladle into mugs.
  • Note: For a nonalcoholic version, omit wine and substitute more apple cider.

  1. Remembering having this on the streets of Germany during the Christmas season and wanted to repeat it here so gave this a try. It's so pleasing and just the right amount of spices. Instead of a Dutch oven we used the crock pot on warm and it kept everything ready through out the festivities so everyone could help them selves as they wanted it. The smell in the house while it was simmering made for even better holiday feelings.
     
  2. Wow fyrehair, was this hot treat lovely. I really enjoyed all the flavors in this drink. It was delicious, fruity, sweet, smooth and spicy. I used Red House wine for this it worked beautifully in this recipe. Thank you for sharing a recipe, that I will enjoy again and again. It was soooo good. Made for Fall Pac 12
