Blue Cheese Dessert Sandwich - Smørrebrød

"Smørrebrød - Open-Faced Sandwiches From Best of Scandinavian Cooking. Posted for ZWT6. To make smorrebrod, cut crusts from slices of pumpernickel or rye bread, but not French bread, when using them for a base. Be careful to spread soft butter entirely over the piece of bread you use. This keeps moist ingredients from seeping through and making the bread soggy."

  1. LOVE it!! I use to make this with blue cheese and orange marmelade, but I also loved it with cherry preserves. For the bread I used a silce of the life changing loaf of bread which is very close to pumpernickel like bread, but gluten free. Thanks foor sharing! Made this for CQ 2017 Scandinavia for the Happy Campers

  2. I used lingonberry preserves instead of cherry and they went with the blue cheese very well! Made for CQ4/2017

  3. This is more like 4 1/2 stars. The blue cheese and the rye bread went very well together, but I'm not sure about the cherry preserves on top, although I do like and enjoyed all three ingredients, both separately and together.
