Hamburger New

"My husband's favourite burger shop - the only burger shop in our little village 35 years ago - still serves this Hamburger called "Hamburger Neu" which means "Hamburger New". Unluckily the owner of the place who invented this fabulous burger has died several years ago. There are new owners who serve the same burger, but it's not quite the same as it used to be, so we decided to make it ourselves. The onions used can be purchased in boxes in Germany. If you don't get them in the US, just fry your own, it's more work but even better I guess ;-)"

  1. This was really good! Now, we added cheese to ours. We used the sauce, but not all for one burger. It went for more than one. My pic was taken before I added the toppings. We used spinach instead of lettuce.

  2. Wow! I need more stars!!! I made two burgers out of this with cutting the ketchup mixture in half...I told the hubby that he needed a knife and fork to eat it...He doubted me...but after taking the photos he made a point of reminding me that I needed a fork and knife to eat the hamburger....my first bite was full of dancing flavors...I could only eat half of the burger...it was very filling but satisfying...thanks for posting the recipe...made for Spring 2014 PAC...=)

  3. What a different type of burger for me! First, I didn't have a hamburger patty....just ground chuck. So I wasn't sure how large it was supposed to be and just improvised! Wasn't sure if it was supposed to be seasoned or not, but decided to stick with just salt and pepper because of the curry in the ketchup. My first bite was questionable....so different from anything I've ever had, but by the 3rd bite I was sold. Just had to wrap my head around such a different taste for a burger! LOL! I think this would be really good on Naan bread or Pita bread....I'll give that a go next time. Thanks for sharing! Made for Aussie Reunion Tag.

  4. Very good. I made it exactly as directed ans both me and my DH loved it. Thank you, this is a keeper!

  5. Excellent burger. I used chili powder instead of the curry (personal preference) and left off the pickled cucumbers as I didn't have any and made my own fried onions and we loved it. This was an excellent burger. thanks for sharing.
