ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 1 cup whole wheat flour (graham)
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 8 ounces butter
- 2⁄3 cup sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 5 tablespoons water (add another tablespoon if needed)

Frosting
- 2 cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1⁄2 teaspoon vanilla (add another 1/2 teaspoon if needed)
- 2 tablespoons soft butter
- 1 tablespoon milk (add another 2 tablespoons if needed)
directions
- Combine both flours, salt and baking powder and reserve.
- In a separate bowl cream butter, sugar and vanilla.
- Blend the reserved dry ingredients into the butter mixture using a fork or pastry blender.
- Sprinkle the water over the mixture, stirring with a fork until the dough is moist enough to hold together.
- Do not use more water than necessary.
- Roll out to 1/8-inch thickness; cut with cookie cutters; place on greased baking sheets.
- Bake in a pre-heated 350 degree oven 14 to 17 minutes.
- Cool on racks.
- Frost when cool.
- To make the frosting: Combine the powdered sugar, vanilla and butter.
- Blend in enough milk to reach desired consistency.

These cookies were quite easy to make, but I halved the recipe because I'm not the best buiscuit baker. They came out very nice and the colour was lovely, and I sandwiched a few together and only dusted half the circle with icing sugar so the brown could show. I would never change this recipe except to double it next time.
