directions

  • Be very sure to use UNSWEETENED.
  • Mix one packet of Kool-Aid with the water in a pot.
  • Heat until boiling, stirring.
  • Remove from heat and cool to a temperature that is warm but not hot.
  • Dip as much hair as possible into the mix.
  • Then, with your head over the pot, ladle the kool-aid over the hair.
  • Do this for 15 minutes.
  • Wring out hair and pat dry with paper towels.
  • Don't wrap in a towel as it will absorb too much colour.
  • At this point you could wrap your hair in plastic wrap and leave overnight or for several hours.
  • Then, uncover and let dry.
  • After it dries, rinse repeatedly, shampoo and condition.
  • Note: The excess colour may stain your skin.
  • Smear petroleum jelly on exposed skin.
  • Even if staining occurs, it will scrub off.

  1. I've tried this way before, but that's too much water - the color will be diluted. I generally would use about 1/2c of water for shoulder-length hair. What I've learned since then is to mix the kool-aid into hair conditioner. Wash your hair and apply the mixed conditioner. Allow to sit overnight (if possible). Then rinse hair and do not shampoo for the first 24-hours. It works much better than water method!

  4. I have found that on darker hair using 2 pkgs. of kool aid and 3 cups boiling water , and 2-3 tbl. of corn starch works better. Instead of just a rinse, this makes a paste that sits in the hair for a few hours. I had some old shower caps (from a hotel vacation) that I used instead of plastic wrap, because long hair can get pulled or yanked with it. I am now the proud parent of pink haired kids. Good luck all!

  5. LOL, well I am guilty of dying my hair this way many times in high school. Mainly to drive my mother crazy. Worked like a charm! I guess I didn't realize people still did this.

I'm a writer, a retired accountant, a wife, grandmother, a gardener, a cook, a bird watcher, a sky watcher, a lover of the ocean, a walker, and a life long resident of Victoria, BC on Vancouver Island. It's a big city now, with all the big city advantages and disadvantages. I miss the small town feel but love the restaurant choices and the people friendly improvements. My writing is mainly non fiction on historical bits, and I have brief and so far unsuccessful forays into historical fiction. Someday..... I don't think I'm a great cook but I'm the kind of cook who can walk into the kitchen and find good things in the fridge and pantry and make it into a meal that everyone thinks is pretty darn good. Sometimes I use a recipe and sometimes...not so much. I have a great collection of cookbooks, and I love reading them and studying the pictures. Sometimes I even cook the recipes, LOL! And that is why I love Zaar, an unending source of recipes and pictures. It's heaven! <img src="http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r271/copperhorse58/HerbsandSpicesSwap2009Sticker.jpg"> <img src="http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r271/copperhorse58/CalendarGirlsSwap2009.jpg"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/PACsticker-Adopted.jpg"> <img src="http://i80.photobucket.com/albums/j166/ZaarNicksMom/Animation6.gif"> <img src="http://i6.photobucket.com/albums/y227/vjuhl/MEPcookathon.jpg"> <img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm286/celticevergreen/ASIAN.jpg"> <img src="http://i68.photobucket.com/albums/i25/bayhill/Zaar%20Icons%20and%20Greetings/gs2009jane.jpg"> <img src ="http://i169.photobucket.com/albums/u208/diner_photos/lazymecookathon.jpg"> <img src="http://i299.photobucket.com/albums/mm286/celticevergreen/indianbanner.jpg"> <img src="http://i497.photobucket.com/albums/rr336/jess4freedom/Zaar%20banners/ANZ-MakeMyRecipe.jpg"> <img src="http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r271/copperhorse58/Birthday%20and%20Celebration%20Images/Calendargirls2.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r271/copperhorse58/Birthday%20and%20Celebration%20Images/spicesswap_amtag3.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a132/tgifford/Game%20Room%20Banners/AM%20Banners/KBparticipation.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <img src="http://i196.photobucket.com/albums/aa130/nowsonexitmusic/vegbannerbasetemp-small.jpg?t=1232859306"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/CookathonforKarensticker.jpg"> <img src="http://i250.photobucket.com/albums/gg271/MrsTeny/AMpageSticker.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> <a href="http://www.maploco.com/view.php?id=3212921"><img border=0 src="http://www.maploco.com/vmap/3212921.png" alt="Visitor Map"></a><a href="http://www.maploco.com/">Create your own visitor map!</a><img style="visibility:hidden;width:0px;height:0px;" border=0 width=0 height=0 src="http://counters.gigya.com/wildfire/IMP/CXNID=2000002.0NXC/bT*xJmx*PTEyMzQ2NTE*NzM4MjgmcHQ9MTIzNDY1MTQ5Mzg5MCZwPTMyMzAwMiZkPSZnPTEmdD*mbz1lMmY5NTExNWZiZDk*OWMzODU5OTNhM2Y1MDhkOWU5YQ==.gif" />
