Peach Ice Cream

"I got this recipe from Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream book. It is the reason I own an ice cream maker. Every year we go to Gaffney, SC and pick up a huge basket of peaches. This is the perfect way to use some of them. The cooking time listed includes time to let the peaches sit in the fridge."

directions

  • Combine the peaches, lemon juice and 3/4 cup of sugar in a bowl.
  • Cover and refrigerate for 2 hours, stirring every 30 minutes.
  • Remove the peaches from the fridge and drain the juice into another bowl and set aside.
  • Return the peaches to the fridge.
  • Whisk the eggs in a mixing bowl until light and fluffy, 1 to 2 minutes.
  • Slowly whisk in 3/4 cup of sugar until completely blended.
  • Add the cream and milk and whisk to blend and then add the peach juice and mix until completely blended.
  • Pour into your ice cream maker and freeze according to the ice maker's directions.
  • When the ice cream is almost frozen (about 2 minutes before it is done) add the peaches and continue freezing until it is ready.
  • If your ice cream maker is anything like mine, you may need to put the ice cream into a container and let it finish freezing in the freezer.

  1. Delicious!! So rich and decadent and smooth. It made enough for two batches in my 1 1/2 quart maker.<br/>The only change I made was to puree the peach mixture after it macerated, then add it in all at once instead keeping out the peach pieces -- my grandson doesn't like 'stuff' in his ice cream. Oh, and I added a pinch of salt in with the eggs/sugar step.

  2. I made this recipe for a 4th of July party. Everyone loved it and agreed it was the best peach ice cream they had ever had. I did make a few small changes to suit my needs. I doubled the recipe to fit my 4qt ice cream freezer, I used egg beaters in place of the raw eggs, and I pureed the peaches after the two hours in the sugar and lemon juice and added them at the beginning instead of adding them in the last two minutes of processing. It was nice and creamy with a wonderful peach flavor. I will definitely be making this recipe again.

  3. Very tasty and refreshing during the hot summer months when peaches come into season. I made a minor change to the recipe because I do not eat raw eggs. I whisked the eggs into the milk and cooked on low heat to 160 degrees. Next time, I will chop the peaches more finely (or possibly crush them after removing the juice) because some of the pieces were too big.

  4. Great peach taste. I pureed the peaches instead of separating them out. I really appreciate this recipe. Thanks.

  5. have a 1.5 quart electric ice cream maker. It works best when the ingredients are ice cold so after step 7, I put the liquid in the freezer for 15 minutes. The ice cream was perfect!!

When I was 10 I discovered the joy of cooking on the back of a Nestle Toll house Chocolate Chip bag. It was the first recipe I ever made. I had a blast and it was a lot of fun to cook something that everyone loved. To this day, baking is one of my favorite things to do, and it shows! (that explains the lack of a picture, hehe) On the non-cooking front, I lead a fairly normal life. For the past four and half years I have been able to stay home with my DD and be a full time mom (is there any other kind?). In college I had a wonderful professor, Dr. Mark Woodhouse (his books are fascinating BTW) and I began my study of the paranormal, conspiracy theory, and metaphysics. I can honestly say it changed my life. I earned my degree in Philosophy with a minor in Religion and English. For those of you who are interested in Astrology, I am a Pisces Dragon. A great book (did I mention that I like to read a lot?) is The New Astrology by Suzanne White. She actually sums up my life very well when she says: "Pisceans born in Dragon years will be touchy and argumentative until they finally stop trying to prove themselves. Then they will become effecient in a chosen profession, stay in a pleasant rut, and cruise around all day dreaming about what to make for dinner."
