I always seem to not have buttermilk on hand when I need it. I've used the powdered milk and vinegar version of this which works well, but today I didn't have any powdered milk! This substitution that I found on the internet works just as well. Show more

Yields: 1 cup

Ingredients

1 cup milk
1 tablespoon lemon juice or 1 tablespoon vinegar

Directions

Combine ingredients and let stand 5 minutes.
After 5 minutes, mix together well and use as buttermilk in any recipe!
