As the ‘Golden Girls’ showed Americans over the course of nearly a decade, getting older doesn’t mean you have to stop living with a bit of spice in your life.
Now, in honor of the sitcom, the woman-owned, woman-run online gift shop Always Fits has launched a line of four hot sauces, with one to match each character’s personality. Better yet, each bottle has a recipe for cheesecake on the label. Don’t worry; the cheesecakes don’t call for hot sauce as an ingredient.
The hot sauces can be purchased individually for $10 per bottle, or in a four pack for $32.
On the lightly-spiced side are two sauces made with jalapeño peppers. For a slow burn, try “Bea Spicy,” named for Bea Arthur’s obstinate Dorothy Zbornak, or “Desert Rose,” named for Betty White’s head-in-the-clouds Rose Nylund.
For a bit more of a kick in the pants, the other two sauces are made with habaneros, carrots and garlic. If you want your lips to go numb while lunching on the lanai, try “Sicilian Fire,” named for Estelle Getty’s very Sicilian matriarch Sophia Petrillo, or “Hot Slut,” named after Rue McClanahan’s libidinous Blanche Devereaux.
In recent years, ‘Golden Girls’ has, with the rise of video streaming sites, gained a new and avid following among younger generations. Because, let’s face it, who isn’t in love with Betty White. All the old episodes of ‘Golden Girls’ have found a home on Hulu.
The hot sauces join a larger line of irreverently feminist-forward gifts inspired by these Miami ladies.
