Steer Has a Field Day in NYC's Prospect Park
The animal faced off with police in a chase that went viral.

The steaks were high on Tuesday for a young steer that made its way into a Brooklyn park before eventually being corralled by the cops.
Tourists and Brooklynites were surprised to find their morning strolls interrupted by a beef bovine, brazenly mooving and shaking its way through Prospect Park. After escaping from a slaughterhouse (which has not yet come forward nor been identified), a brown steer was spotted by bartender Rosie Schaap in South Slope using the sidewalk like a good New Yorker.
After knocking over a stroller and sending a child to the hospital, the steer interacted with some camera-wielding individuals near the fenced-in turf fields before police officers arrived on the scene and tried unsuccessfully to trap it with soccer nets.
The police eventually used two trucks to trap the steer in a baseball dugout, behind a section of chain-link fencing. In the early afternoon the brown beast was tranquilized, lassoed and subsequently led into a police horse trailer.
Fear not! Meat will not be the fate of this freedom fighter. He has been steered in the direction of Wantage, where he will live out his life at the Skylands Animal Sanctuary and Rescue. The animal rescue has named him Shankar, and has been posting video updates of his spacious new quarters on Facebook.
It was no white Ford Bronco, but the chase captivated us all the same.
