For $10, You Could Win a Reservation at the New Noma
The four-time best restaurant in the world has moved, and you could be there on opening night.

At 4 p.m. Copenhagen local time on November 16th, reservations went online for the reopening of what was formerly the world’s best restaurant. Thirty minutes later they were unavailable, and by the day’s end they were completely sold-out. Noma is back, and odds are—whether for reasons of price or speed—you are not going to be joining the party.
Gate crash, maybe? No need. Some good news appeared this week for lovers of foraged food and New Nordic cuisine, when Noma’s co-owner and chef René Redzepi announced that the restaurant would be raffling off two seats for dinner on the restaurant’s opening night.
The contest, powered by Omaze, will send the winner and one friend to Noma on opening night (February 15th). Flights will be paid for. Accommodations in a four-star hotel will be paid for. Dinner and drinks will be paid for. Plus, the winner will be witness to the fine dining experience of a lifetime. The day after, they’ll enjoy coffee with the Noma team before taking a tour of the restaurant’s fermentation lab. All-in-all, it’s a package valued at around $3,500—though some, no doubt, would see it as priceless.
In order to sign up for the contest, hopefuls need only donate to Redzepi’s MAD Symposium, which hosts an annual conference on the future of food. The more you donate, the more “entries” you get in return, which means a higher likelihood that you’ll actually win. At the low end, you can donate as little as $10 for 100 entries. Or, if you really, really want to eat strange lichens and small sea creatures that you never knew existed, you can donate $10,000 for 100,000 entries and either a two-day guided walking tour of Copenhagen or a “half-day hang-out in the fermentation lab and lunch at the new Noma.”
Not quite on the level of the restaurant’s student discount, but we all have to decide what’s important in life, right? Or, just give it a go at the $10 level. Hey, somebody’s gotta win; might as well be you.
