You sit down for a greasy chicken sandwich. Unable to contain your joy, you dive in and take a massive bite. Catching your reflection in the Instagram screen, you realize that your lipstick is all astray. Whatever shall you do?!
Never fear; the gods of capitalism feel your pain. For this disastrous and oddly specific ordeal, there is now a pop-up just for you—one where you can have your fried chicken with a side order of cushiony, crystal clear lip gloss.
On Wednesday, millennial cult makeup brand Glossier opened a restaurant pop-up store at Rhea’s Café in San Francisco’s Mission District. The pop-up will be open for a month, and will serve a small selection of the American-Korean café’s hit foods. Glossier’s coveted and exclusive products will be available to try and buy in the store.
From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., visitors will be able to pick from Rhea Café’s menu, which includes a choice of three sandwiches—buttermilk fried chicken, Korean steak or chicken katsu—two salads and french fries, according to Eater. After that, customers can browse the makeup selection. From 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., the pop-up will offer beer and wine.
It’s a quirky, not-at-all-obvious partnership, which has allowed Glossier its first physical presence on the West Coast (the brand’s showroom—its only permanent location—is located in New York City). For owner James Choi, the joint venture presented an opportunity for more business recognition.
“I was skeptical because a food and makeup concept was just so radically different,” Choi explained to the San Francisco Chronicle, “but it was exciting to think about something that has never been done before.”
However you want to describe the concept, at least you can be sure that you’ll leave the restaurant looking like a freakin’ flawless Krispy Kreme doughnut.
