Little Caesars Bet Big On Basketball, Now Owes USA Free Pizza
The chain was upset by UMBC’s historic win on Friday.
When it comes to gambling, if you’re afraid to lose it, don’t put it on the table. That goes for cash, your Aston Martin DB5, or pizza for a nation of 325 million people.
The odds were in Little Caesars’ favor last week when it offered an unsolicited Twitter wager on the NCAA March Madness basketball tournament. If the #16 seed upset the #1 seed in the Sweet Sixteen round of competition, the company would offer the United States of America a free lunch combo deal. As you might have guessed by now, Little Caesars lost that bet.
To provide some context, such an upset has never before happened in the history of the tournament. With the University of Virginia dominating throughout the season, and the University of Maryland, Baltimore County, barely scraping by, nobody expected such an outcome.
So, as promised, Little Caesars will now offer a free lunch combo—including a four-slice rectangular deep dish pizza and a 20-ounce drink from Pepsi—to everyone in America on April 2nd. “Because crazy happened.”
Of course, not everyone in America will be able to get their hands on this deal. That would just be terrible planning on the part of Little Caesars. Instead, the deal will be limited to one free lunch combo per family, and the promotion will run from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., with a hard stop at the end. Anybody who rolls up to the counter after 1 p.m. will be denied.
So go early and hungry and leave pacified. Because we might not all love sports, but there’s no question that we all love pizza.
