Breakfast Will Never Be the Same Once Blueberry Milk Arrives

It’s made with itty-bitty Maine blueberries.

Coconut, soy and almond may be the hottest trends in milk right now, but the OG dairy flava-flavs were strawberry and chocolate. Time for a comeback? One Maine-based dairy thinks so, and they’re using a new, indigo-colored berry to get the job done: the Maine blueberry.

Last week, Oakhurst Dairy posted an exciting update to its Instagram page, asking customers for their opinions on two possible label options for their newest product.

“Wild Blueberry Milk is coming!”

The beverage is made with blueberries and whole milk, making it more of a flavored milk than a milk substitute. It will be available for sale in the spring. The new product will join the Oakhurst’s ranks of strawberry-, chocolate-, and coffee-flavored milks.

According to the Portland Press Herald, the milk will indeed be made with real Maine blueberries. The state is facing a surplus of the sweet-tart fruit, which, when coupled with competition from Canadian berries, has led to a government buy-out of the extras.

If you can get your hands on a basket of the dark little pearls, by all means do. A Maine blueberry is better than any caviar, and that could be a fact.
