Mario Batali to Fry Up Homer’s Head on 'The Simpsons'

This year’s ‘Treehouse of Horrors’ special also features exorcisms and CGI candy bars.

Cookbook author, television personality and restaurateur Mario Batali is no newcomer to the lesser-used bits of an animal. Case in point: in 2001, New York Magazine awarded his restaurant Babbo the honor of Best Head Cheese in New York City. It seems appropriate, then, that Batali would be joining the cast of The Simpsons on Sunday to fry up a variation of the offal: Homer’s disembodied head.

In one image released from this year’s “Treehouse of Horrors” Halloween special, Batali can be seen in Crocs and socks chatting with Homer’s upper half (the bottom seems to have been removed with a saw). In another, he stands at the stove, frying up Homer’s head in a wood-handled wok.

According to the New York Post, Homer gets a taste for his own flesh after accidentally chopping off his finger. It then gets a good grilling on the barbecue. In other segments, you can expect exorcisms, as well as a CGI Simpson family that has been transformed into candy bars as they avoid being eaten.

Batali is no stranger to America’s longest-running animated sitcom; in 2001 he appeared in Marge Simpson’s dream in an episode also featuring Anthony Bourdain and Gordon Ramsay.

The 28th annual “Treehouse of Horrors” special airs on Sunday, October 22nd at 8 p.m. on Fox. We certainly hope it involves Homer head cheese (recipe please?)
