New Jägermeister ‘Manifest’ Is Low-Frat & High On the Class

The brand goes top-shelf with less liquorice and more mature wood.

When Curt Mast perfected the formula for Jägermeister back in 1934, he actually intended it to become a fraternity drink. Granted, the fraternity he had in mind was that of German hunters—not collar-popping, college-partying compadres.

Now, Jägermeister is rising above the rave by taking its signature herbal formula and giving it the “super premium” treatment to make “Manifest,” a top-shelf liqueur that is very much its own thing.

Manifest’s flavors are extracted from over 56 different herbs, roots, blossoms and fruit. These botanicals are macerated five times instead of Jägermeister’s four. The resulting spirit is refined in oak barrels of varying sizes for over a year before being sealed into its bottle, complete with “hand-applied emblem.”

While Manifest still has those liquorice-forward notes of anise that you would expect from Jägermeister, they are more subdued in favor of spice and aromatic bitters, all of which is mellowed out by the vanilla that results from oak aging.

Unlike the traditional Jägermeister shot, which is meant to be served at an “ice-kühl” zero degrees Fahrenheit, the Manifest is best consumed neat and slightly chilled.

“Our master distillers have used the utmost diligence and their wealth of experience to refine our strictly guarded Jägermeister recipe and enhance the masterly well-rounded production process,” said Dr. Berndt Finke, Jägermeister’s head of raw materials and manufacturing, in a statement.

Jägermeister Manifest is available May 17th at an expected to retail price of $59.99. For the first year of its release, it will be available in limited quantities.
