Oscars Food Recap: Snack Boxes & After-Party In-N-Out
From wagyu beef tartare to fast food burgers, the film industry did not go hungry on awards night.

Sure, the Academy Awards ceremony might be one of those hours-long awards shows, but somehow the hosts have made every effort to keep people from getting hangry. In the past, these efforts have been wild and surprising. While Ellen called in the pizza delivery guy to distribute slices in 2014, Jimmy Kimmel opted for parachutes in 2017.
Simplifying things, Kimmel got democratic for his second year and made sure everybody got a taste. In a series of film-themed boxes given to “everyone” at the Oscars, Kimmel and co. provided snacks to assuage the crowd during the marathon event, writing in a note, “It wouldn’t be right to make you sit through this without snacks.” Inside, guests found chips, cookies, gummy bears, granola bars and a pack of Listerine strips for minty breath. Every box was paired with a donation to the LA Regional Food Bank. The one stipulation?
“Please don’t throw them at me,” he wrote.
Snack box or no snack box, the ceremony was followed by the Governors Ball, where celebs and guests were treated to luxe passed hors d’oeuvres and other bites from the kitchen of Wolfgang Puck. The dishes included Miyazaki wagyu beef tartare, crab and black truffle dumplings, and fresh beignets, according to Forbes, with the brand new ruby chocolate from Callebaut starring in a dessert of “strawberry-hibiscus mousse, strawberry compote, vanilla sponge cake, mascarpone cream, and ruby chocolate.”
If that wasn’t enough to stuff down their gobs, the stars got even more at the famous Vanity Fair afterparty, where, the Associated Press reported, there were unending In-N-Out burgers served by workers in fast food uniform, as well as tables laden with truffled popcorn and fried chicken nuggets.
Alas, the price of fame could be never actually being able to finish your food; apparently Best Actress-winner Frances McDormand had difficulty eating her burger with the onslaught of adoring, congratulating fans, which included Jon Hamm.
Not the end of the world if the nominees and winners left hungry, however, because once the shoes came off and the feet were placed comfortably in slippers at home, they could take a peek at their $100,000 gift bags of snacks and week-long vacations to the tropics.
