While many adults have had wild nights on the town, only the most unfortunate have woken up to find themselves in a police cell. On Sunday morning, it was hedgehogs that happened to find themselves in such a predicament.

After finding a broken bottle of a creamy, egg-based liqueur on a playground in Erfurt, Germany, two hedgehogs drank their fill on Saturday night before being found the next morning, drunk and immobile, by a local resident, reported a local paper.

The Thüringen Police were called to the scene, at which point officers took notes on the spiky creatures’ condition.

“Communication with the drunkards was extremely difficult, since both had only very vague memories of the events, their environment and their earthly existence,” they wrote in a Facebook post, which was translated by Genius Kitchen using the Google machine, then edited.

Officers Corinna and Hendrik then whisked the two critters away to the (figurative) drunk tank at the Thüringen Zoo Park, where they are still being nursed back to health after their epic bender.

Hedgehogs have a particular fondness for eggs, which explains why this duo went H.A.M. on the bottle of advocaat. Advocaat is like eggnog, and can be found in grocery aisles. It contains eggs, sugar and brandy.

This is obviously not the first time a critter has gotten drunk as a skunk on some human booze. One recent occasion saw a wild possum burglarize a liquor store and down a bottle of bourbon.

The police used this opportunity to remind the public that trash should be disposed of properly.
