Beer Tasting in the Sky: JetBlue Teams Up with Samuel Adams

Who needs first class when you can have beer class?

September 12, 2017 —  On October 5th, one planeful of people will be lucky enough to go to the great brewpub in the sky. Or more precisely, a great beer tasting in the sky. For the price of a flight from New York’s JFK to Denver, passengers on JetBlue flight 97 will get to experience a hoppy partnership between the airline and the nation’s second-largest craft brewery, Samuel Adams.

With what the companies are calling the “Flytoberfest Inflight Beer Flight,” passengers will get to experience a three-beer tasting, guided by Sam Adams founder Jim Koch over the plane’s public address speakers. According to Food & Wine, Koch will be bringing along Sam Adams Octoberfest as well as two as-yet undisclosed beers, including an “extreme beer coveted by beer geeks” and a “new experimental brew from the Samuel Adams nano-brewery.” Flight attendants will be suited up in their Oktoberfest finery, and passengers will receive goodie bags and be able to participate in beer-themed fun and games.

We feel a little bad for the poor minors on the flight who will be unable to participate in this beer-themed bacchanal, but it’s likely that there won’t be many of them present: the majority of passengers are expected to be heading to the Great American Beer Festival, the largest beer festival in the US. The festival was founded in 1982, and last year’s edition attracted over 60,000 people. It features over 800 breweries serving over 3,800 beers which will be competing for gold, silver and bronze medals in 96 different beer-style categories.

A very limited number of seats are still available at the time of this writing, so if you want to fly to Denver while simultaneously floating down the center aisle, act fast. Jim Koch is saving you a beer.
