1 Choose Your Ingredients

There are just a few staple ingredients you’ll need for making a great grilled cheese: bread, cheese, and butter. You can use basic sandwich bread and a couple slices of your favorite cheese. For an extra delicious sandwich, pick up a fresh loaf of artisan bread in the bakery department of your local grocery store. Sourdough and Italian breads hold up especially well and crisp up nicely with butter. As for the cheese, this is completely up to personal preference. Cheeses that melt especially well are Provolone, Swiss, sharp Cheddars, Muenster and Jack.  Provolone and Jack are the cheeses used here.

2 Build Your Sandwich

Once you’ve chosen your ingredients, it’s time to build your sandwich. Simply place the cheese between the two slices of bread.  =There are three slices of cheese in this sandwich. Layer the cheese appropriately so that when the cheese melts it will be evenly distributed between the bread.

3 Butter One Side of the Sandwich and Add to a Hot Skillet

Heat a small skillet or grill plate over medium high heat.

Once you’ve built your sandwich, evenly spread about a ½ Tbsp. of soft butter on ONE side of the sandwich. This will ensure the bread toasts evenly and becomes crisp. You’ll then add the sandwich butter side down into the hot skillet. Cook the sandwich for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

4 Butter Other Side and Flip

While the sandwich is cooking on the first side, you can then add the butter to the second side of the sandwich. Just like the first side, evenly spread about a ½ Tbsp. of soft butter over the bread. Cook the first side of the bread for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

5 Flip the Sandwich

Using a spatula, flip the sandwich to the other buttered side. Cook the sandwich on the second side for about 2-3 minutes, or until golden brown.

6 Transfer the Sandwich to a Plate and Enjoy

As soon as the sandwich has finished cooking on both sides, remove from the hot skillet and transfer to a plate. Make sure to turn off your stove and remove the skillet from the heat source.

Slice the sandwich, if desired. Enjoy while hot for the ultimate cheesy, delicious treat!
