1 Prepare the Pan

Choose the right pan for maximum flavor and minimal mess. A rimmed baking sheet lined with foil allows for a generous piling of chips and toppings, while keeping clean up easy.

2 Make the First Chip Layer

For crispy chips with the ultimate cheese coverage, lay chips out in a single layer. Take care to not crowd the pan.

TIP
Choose sturdy chips to better stand up to the ultimate load of cheese and toppings.

3 Add First Cheese Layer

Use a combination of grated sharp cheddar and Monterrey Jack cheese for ultimate flavor. Sprinkle about 1 cup of each evenly over chips.

TIP
Add a drizzling of nacho cheese sauce for extra cheesiness. Use warmed jarred cheese sauce, or easily make your own.

4 Add First Toppings Layer

Limiting the number of ingredients baked with the chips is the key to crispiness. Top chips with no more than two or three toppings. Choose from items such as black beans, refried beans, chopped grilled chicken, seasoned ground beef (browned and drained), or chopped jalapenos.

5 Make Second Layer

Lay out a second single layer of chips. Sprinkle about 1 cup each of shredded cheddar and Monterey Jack cheese evenly over chips. Top with selected toppings.

TIP
While goodies on each chip is certainly desired, refrain from completely covering each chip to achieve ultimate crispiness while baking.

6 Bake

Bake at 400 degrees until lightly browned and crispy, about 8 to 10 minutes. Sprinkle with finely chopped red onion and fresh cilantro. Serve immediately.

7 Dip & Enjoy

Rather than piling on top, serve wet dips on the side to prevent soggy chips. Dip chips in salsa, guacamole, or sour cream and enjoy!
