  • Put flowers and 3 cups water in a saucepan and bring to a boil; continue boiling approximately 5 minutes.
  • Remove from heat and add remaining cup of water and sugar.
  • Set aside at least 4 hours (or overnight).
  • Strain into a pitcher and refrigerate.
  • Serve well-chilled.

  2. I've been lucky enough to visit both Mexico and Bali over the last year and learned to appreciate chilled hibiscus tea in both places. My kids love this recipe which makes a strong purple drink that reminds me of cranberry juice. In Bali, they drink it very diluted so the flavor is delicate and they add a little lemon juice, which magically changes the color to light pink, like pink lemonade. It also stretches the flowers a little farther, much appreciated here where they are hard to get and a little pricey.
     
  3. Tart and refreshing. Trivia: Hibiscus puts the "zing" in the Celestial Seasonings brand "Zinger" teas.
     
  4. I have made this for years and it's one of my favorite drinks on a hot day. It has a remarkably fruity taste, not like normal herbal tea at all.
     
  5. I drink it often, It has diuretic properties and helps to lose weight.
