directions

  • mix the meats,onion,bread crumbs,oregano,cumin,salt and pepper well.stir in the egg,mix well,roll into 1.5 inch balls,chill them while prepare the sauce.
  • soak the dried chile in hot water for 15 min,drain the chile,reserve the soaking water.
  • heat oil in a sauce pan and saute the onion for 3 min,add the chopped chile to onion,fry for 1 min,stir in the beef broth,tomatoes,passata and soaking water,season with salt,pepper,bring to a boil and lower the heat,simmer for 5 min,stir occasionally.
  • heat the oil in a frying pan and fry the meatballs until browned,about 5 min,drain and transfer them to the sauce,simmer for 10 min.stir gently to coat the meatballs with sauce.
  • serve with white rice.
