Alternative Pb&j

"Healthier, more texturally satisfying, and equally delicious than the traditional PB&J. Really, not that innovative when you think about it--hummus is made of chickpeas, tahini OR peanut butter, garlic... using that as a kind of replacement for the PB&J, and you get deliciousness. Inspired by college campus dining choices (which include salad bars with containers of sauces, legumes, etc.)."

  • 1 -2 tablespoon unflavored whole chickpeas (otherwise known as garbanzo beans, from the can, drained)
  • 1 slice whole wheat bread
  • 1 -2 tablespoon choice fruit jelly (grape, blackberry suggested (avoid tarter fruits)

  • Ingredient proportions are per slice of bread, or half of a sandwich (folded slice of bread).
  • -Spread choice fruit preserve as would for PB&J on bread slice.
  • -Add chickpeas (still whole), folding bread in a taco-like way to contain them.
  • -Consume.
