- 20 g split black gram, raw (urad dal)
- 1⁄2 medium onion, chopped
- 1⁄2 medium tomatoes, chopped
- 1⁄4 teaspoon turmeric powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon cumin seed
- 1 pinch asafoetida powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon ginger, chopped
- 1 green chili
- 1⁄4 teaspoon red chili powder
- 4 sprigs fresh coriander leaves
- 1⁄2 teaspoon lemon juice
- 1 teaspoon salt (according to your taste)
- 1⁄2 teaspoon oil
directions
- Step 1.
- Soak urad dal in water for 10-15 minutes.
- Step 2.
- Drain and cook urad dal with salt, turmeric powder and 1 cup water till just done.
- Step 3.
- Take care that the dal does not get overcooked and each grain remains separate.
- Step 4.
- Heat oil in a non stick pan. Add cumin seeds, asafoetida, ginger and onions and saute till fragrant. Chop green chillies and add along with red chilli powder, tomatoes and saute.
- Step 5.
- Drain dal and add and mix gently. Adjust salt and mix.
- Step 6.
- Chop coriander leaves and add and mix well. You can add lemon juice if you wish. Serve hot.
