- 5 cups flour
- 1⁄4 cup sugar
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 2 tablespoons warm water
- 1 3⁄4 ounces dry yeast
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup shortening
directions
- Sift dry ingredients into a larger mixing bowl.
- Add shortening and mix until coarse.
- Dissolve yeast in warm water and add to mixture.
- Add buttermilk.
- Mix until smooth.
- Put in greased bowl and cover.
- Cool in refrigerator for at least 30 minutes.
- Knead dough.
- Cut into biscuits.
- Bake until tops of biscuits brown.
