“I found this recipe on an old newspaper clipping, pressed into one of my grandmother's cookbooks. I haven't ventured to make this recipe myself yet, but I figured it was worth transcribing before it disintegrated! One thing I noticed - Most apple bread recipes I've seen have extra sugar added, but this one doesn't. Some apples are definitely sweeter than others though.”

  1. Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  2. Mix with shortening, eggs, apples and sour milk.
  3. Add vanilla and nuts.
  4. Bake in loaf pan 1 hour at 350°F.
