Apple Bread

"I found this recipe on an old newspaper clipping, pressed into one of my grandmother's cookbooks. I haven't ventured to make this recipe myself yet, but I figured it was worth transcribing before it disintegrated! One thing I noticed - Most apple bread recipes I've seen have extra sugar added, but this one doesn't. Some apples are definitely sweeter than others though."

  • Sift together flour, salt, baking powder and baking soda.
  • Mix with shortening, eggs, apples and sour milk.
  • Add vanilla and nuts.
  • Bake in loaf pan 1 hour at 350°F.
