- 3 cups flour
- 1 1⁄2 teaspoons baking soda
- 3⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 3⁄4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 3⁄4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3⁄4 teaspoon ground cloves
- 3⁄4 cup butter, melted
- 1 1⁄4 cups sugar
- 3 eggs
- 1⁄2 cup buttermilk
- 1 1⁄2 cups apple butter (Musselman's)
- 1⁄4 cup evaporated milk (Pet )
- 2 teaspoons vanilla
- 4 cups powdered sugar
- 1⁄2 cup butter, softened

CAKE:
- Save the last 4 ingredients for the frosting.
- Stir together flour, baking soda, salt, nutmeg. cloves,and cinnamon.
- Beat butter and sugar together until fluffy.
- Beat in eggs, one at a time.
- Combine buttermilk and applesauce.
- Add alternately with the flour mixture, mixing well after each addition.
- Pour into 2 greased and floured 9 inch round cake pans.
- Bake at 350* for 35-40 minute
- Remove from pans.
- Cool thoroghly on cake racks.
- Frost cooled cake with Creamy Vanilla Frosting.

FROSTING:
- In a small bowl, Combine butter, milk, vanilla and sugar.(Last 4 ingredients of list).
- Mix until frosting is smooth and shiny.
- If Consistency is too thick.
- Add a few drops of milk.
- Frost cooled Applesauce Layer Cake.
