  • To make the topping, combine all the ingredients and mix well.
  • Set aside.
  • To make the cake, combine the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon and nutmeg in a large mixing bowl.
  • Beat the eggs, sour cream and melted shortening together in a small bowl.
  • Stir into the dry ingredients, mixing just until blended.
  • Stir in the apples.
  • Spread evenly in a greased 9" springform pan.
  • Sprinkle the topping over the batter.
  • Bake at 350 degrees F for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the centre comes out clean.
  • Serve either warm or cool.

<p>I live with my husband, four cats, and a sweet mutt named Jada in Scarborough, Ontario, where I work as an elementary school administrative assistant. I have a 31 year old daughter who lives with her boyfriend in nearby Don Mills, along with my sweet granddogs, Frankie and Turbo.
