  1. Cream together applesauce, sugar, and Crisco (the Crisco will be slightly chunky).
  2. Mix in egg and vanilla.
  3. Sift together all dry ingredients (except chocolate chips) and mix in with wet ingredients just until blended. Don't over mix.
  4. Hand mix chocolate chips just until blended.
  5. Preheat oven to 350 degrees and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or grease with cooking spray.
  6. Spoon dough 2-3 inches apart on the sheet and bake for 12-15 minutes. When they are done, the cookies will have a soft cakelike texture.
