  1. Heat oven to 350°F
  2. Spray a 13 X 9-inch baking pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  3. In a small bowl, combine flour, rolled oats, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and cloves; set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, combine sugar and butter; beat until light and fluffy.
  5. Add vanilla and egg; beat well.
  6. Add flour mixture alternately with applesauce, beating after each addition.
  7. Stir in dates.
  8. Spread batter into prepared pan.
  9. Bake 30 to 40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  10. Cool.
  11. Sprinmkle with powdered sugar just before serving.
