directions

  • Rinse and pat chicken dry.
  • In a large, wide saucepan, mix together sesame oil, onion, garlic, broth, rice vinegar, soy sauce, hoisin sauce, apricot preserves, light brown sugar and ginger; mix well.
  • Heat mixture to a boil over med-high heat.
  • Add the chicken drumsticks.
  • Continue to cook over medium to medium-high heat for 25-30 minutes, turning/rearranging chicken (with tongs) often, or until chicken juices run clear.
  • Remove chicken to a platter; keep warm.
  • IF the sauce has not yet reduced to a thick glaze yet, continue to cook and stir until it reduces to a thick glaze; do not let burn.
  • Either Pour the reduced glaze over chicken pieces or return the chicken to the galze in the pot (off the heat) and stir to coat.
  • Sprinkle with sesame seeds and/or sliced green onions, if desired.
  • Serve hot or room temperature.
  • Grab some napkins and dig in!

  1. I didn't have reduced sodium soy sauce, only regular, and this was way too salty and I love salt. I would make this again though. I can see it would be fine with the reduced sodium sauce.

  2. I just adored this recipe. I did not have apricot on hand so I used peach instead. Used tamari sauce and 2 tablespoons of sucanat in place of the brown sugar. It took awhile to cook down the sauce after I took out the chicken but what I ended up with was almost exactly like my favorite teriyaki wings from Buffalo Wild Wings. I was thrilled. Now I can make them at home. Yippee! You made my day. Thank you for posting. Made for my Babes for ZWT4. Oh, and as Parsley said, You are gonna need lots of extra napkins.

  3. Absolutely Fantastic!! DH and I both agreed that these drumsticks get 5 stars. I was really easy to put together and needed only minimal attention. I added about a tablespoon of flour at the end to get the sauce to thicken but other than that I followed the recipe exactly. The sauce is so yummy and it was really good on the veggies I served with this. Thanks for a keeper recipe!! Made for the Babes of ZWT4.

  4. This was great!! I loved the blend of flavors. I will definately be making this recipe again. I di make one change, I didn't have sesame seeds for sprinkling, but I did have cashews so I sprinkle those on instead, very good. I also used glaze to top white rice and that was really good. I will recommend this recipe to others. Thank you for a great recipe!!
