ingredients
- 2 tilapia fillets (around 4-5 ounces each)
- 3 tablespoons soy sauce, plus 1 tablespoon
- 1 tablespoon dark sesame oil
- 2 teaspoons red chili pepper flakes
- 4 -5 garlic cloves, sliced thinly (you can scale back on the garlic according to your tastes)
- 1 tablespoon fresh ginger, sliced thinly
- 1⁄2 medium onion, chopped
- 1 medium green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
directions
- Place tilapia filets in single layer on large sheet of heavy-duty aluminum foil.
- In a small bowl, combine the 3 tablespoons of soy sauce, sesame oil, red chili flakes, garlic, and ginger.
- Place the onion and green pepper on top of the tilapia filets.
- Pour the soy sauce mixture over the tilapia.
- Fold up the edges of the foil and make a packet (bring up sides of foil and fold into the center).
- Marinate in the refrigerator for at least an hour.
- Bring about 1-2 inches of water to boil in large saucepan. Once it starts boiling, place packet in saucepan. Cover and reduce heat.
- Let packet steam for 12 minutes before you check for doneness (fish should flake when touched with fork). Keep checking back every 2 minutes (depending on thickness of aluminum foil, it may take up to 25 minutes for fish to steam completely).
- Once fish is completely cooked, open up packet and pour remaining tablespoon of soy sauce over fish. Sprinkle on the toasted sesame seeds.
- Serve with white rice.
