Sour Cream Au Gratin Potatoes

"Hi everyone! I have lived in the States for over 30 years, but my American husband and I moved to Norway almost 7 years ago. (I was born in Norway) Converting recipes is sometimes a challenge, but the "try-and-fail" method seems to work, and is sometimes very funny----I have a few recipes that have been favorites through the years and this Au Gratin potato recipe is one of them. I don't know where or when I got it, but my 3 kids, who are now 34, 32 and 27 and all living in America, loved this when they were growing up, and still do! Try it! P.S. So happy to find this site! It is fantastic, and much fun! I've also submitted another recipe--one of my favorites , called TUNA-BROCCOLI BAKE, delicious and practically FAT-FREE! Check it out! I like this potato recipe as it is delicious and very, very simple to make."

  1. I can see why this is a favorite of all. Total comfort and easy as pie to put together. I followed this exactly except I had some sliced deli ham that needed to be used so I layered that in between the potatoes. I also melted the butter and softened the onions and mixed all this together with the soup, sour cream and cheddar cheese. This was so delish that there was nothing left over except the serving spoon in the bowl. Oh well! Guess I just have to serve this again. Did I say I loved this? Well, everyone on the farm gave this a firm, and resounding, "YES!" Made for silly sally in honor of *LiveStrong Day* May 2008.

  2. My DH really liked these potatoes. I wasn't hardly as fond of them as he was. He loves sour cream. I'm sure I will be making these again soon. Thanks for posting.

  3. These potatoes were wonderful!! I used 5 potatoes, but left all the other ingredients the same. The result was the creamiest, most delicious potatoes. With the leftovers, I scrambled 2 eggs and mixed the eggs & potatoes together for breakfast....Yummy!! Thanks Brittney for a great recipe.

  4. This is a great recipe that is sure to please everyone. I used green onions for this dish. It doesn't get any easier than this to have creamy, cheesy potatoes. Thanks for sharing, Brittney.

  5. Great recipe. We really enjoyed this recipe just as much as left overs as we did when I first cooked it. I will be using this recipe again. I cooked it exactly as directed.
