Auntie Jill's Soy-Free Vegan Brownies - and They're Good!

"Don't let the name fool you - these are delicious! My Sister had some pretty strict dietary needs and found a recipe that she could play around with to suit her needs. It has no soy, and no milk products but tastes terrific. The best thing about this is that you can lick the bowl because there are no eggs! This brownie is a little more cake-like but I don't like really rich foods, so it's perfect. Enjoy!"

  1. I wanted to let you know that this is the best brownie recipe ever! I have been making these regularly for over a year. We are part of a church group of mostly college students (and us) that meets for a potluck dinner every week. When our youngest daughter needed to go dairy free last year we started looking for quick desserts to bring to our dinners that she could have. I can throw these together quickly and everybody is happy! We have changed the name though, we call them "Palm Brownies" because by the time we dish out dessert nobody wants to wait to wash dishes when you can eat a warm brownie straight from your hand!! My notes on the recipe are basic, I use kosher salt, gives them a great spark of flavor! I usually sub the cup of water with whatever milk substitute I have on hand, almond, rice or coconut milk. Makes them taste very rich. I also will throw a handful of dairy free chocolate chips on top for fun. Oh and I just used coconut oil instead of veg oil the last time I made them and they were marvelous! Thanks for a great recipe Auntie Jill!

  2. Boy oh boy..these are really good. Not too sweet in the least and definitely more cake-ish than fudge-ish. Are those words? I did omit the walnut's b/c I was sharing with others and some preferred w/o. I definitely would have added them had it been just for me. :-) Made for KK's Chef's Pick.

  3. I had another brownie recipe for my son who has allergies to milk, egg and peanuts but it didn't work good. So I came across this recipe and left out the nuts and it turned out sooooo good! I will be making these for every birthday and gathering I can think of. YUM, the whole family loved them and you can't even tell there is no milk or egg.

  4. These are fabulous- easy- and vegan, too! Whoohoo! Anybody would love 'em. They hit the right balance between fudgey and cakey- just the way I like my brownies. And I have to say, I don't usually like nuts in brownies, but the walnuts here are *really* good. Will be keeping this recipe! Thanks for posting, Nif!

I love great food and I particularly like trying cuisines new to me! Although I don't prepare as much food as I used to, creating in my kitchen is still one of my favourite things to do. Enjoy!
