Baby Finger Food - Apple Turkey Loaf or Sticks

"I found this recipe on wholesomebabyfood.com and I am posting it for safe keeping. It is recommended for babies that are 6 months and older, but they also advise speaking to your pediatrician before starting your baby on solids. Also, remember to follow the RULE OF FOUR (wait 4 days after introducing new foods) and make sure your baby has had no allergic reactions to any of the foods in this recipe before serving it!"

  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 1 eggs or 2 egg yolks, beaten
  • 12 cup carrot, pureed (baby food works well)
  • 14 cup applesauce
  • 14 cup wheat bran (unprocessed and natural) or 1/4 cup oat bran (unprocessed and natural)
  • 14 cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 pinch basil
  • 1 pinch garlic powder

  • Place ground turkey in a large mixing bowl.
  • Add the egg/yolk, carrots, applesauce, spices, bread crumbs and bran.
  • Mix well - If this mixture appears too dry, add more carrots or applesauce. If this mixture appears too wet, add more bran and/or bread crumbs.
  • Place mix into a lightly oiled (olive oil) loaf pan and bake at 350F for approximately 45 minutes or until an inserted knife comes out clean.
  • **You may wish to cover with foil to prevent the top from burning.
  • When finished baking and cooled, remove loaf from pan and slice as you would for bread.
  • Break into small bits for finger feeding or mash or chop gently for younger babies.
  • This recipe may also be made into "Turkey Sticks" for Toddlers and older babies who are able to handle more textured/chunky finger foods.

  1. My 10 month old daughter loved these! She tends to not like most things with meat. I made them into a fishstick shape and cooked them for about 30 minutes and they were done. I froze them and now I can reheat one or two for dinner or a snack. I plan on trying this with different combinations, like ground chicken and ground beef and other veggies.

The most defining trait in my life is that I am a mother to two wonderful boys (Tyler, 20 and Zayden, 9). I live in the little college town of Selinsgrove, Pennsylvania. I was lucky enough to be given tickets to see Joe Paterno win his 400th game as the head coach of the football team. I cried like I did when my children were born. The other love of my life is cooking. I didn't really start trying to cook until I was 20, but believe me I have made up for lost time! I absolutely adore baking and I do it whenever I can. I love making Christmas cookies and I have begun hosting our extended families at our home for Thanksgiving and Easter dinners. So far so good. I love food.com because it allows me to expand my culinary skills and my recipe box with ideas from other people like me. There is something for everyone and I have been a loyal member since 2005.
