  • Heat the oil in a small saucepan over a moderate heat and fry the onion for a couple of minutes.
  • Add the chili and cook for a couple of minutes, stirring continuously, until the onion begins to turn golden brown.
  • Stir in the spices and fry for a further minute, before adding the beans. Reduce the heat and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Taste and season with salt, if necessary. Serve with hot chapattis, naan, pitta bread or toast.
