Banana Bread

"This is a recipe that my mother got from her mother. It never lasts long in any household. Make sure your bananas are very, very ripe. They should be brown all over for the best flavor (and easier mashing.)"

  • The best way to combine the ingredients is to put either the eggs or the melted shortening in first, followed by the dry ingredients, followed by the last ingredient (shortening or eggs.) It doesn't really matter how they are combined but if the shortening and eggs mix together, you may find your eggs being fried before your very eyes.
  • Once it's in the bowl, mix until combined (but don't overmix), pour into a loaf pan and bake at 350 degrees for 60-70 minutes. Then sit back and watch it disappear!

  1. I tried this recipe and I thought it was terrible. The bread was tough and dry. Will use my regular recipe next time.

I love to bake and I absolutely adore ethnic foods. I enjoy trying new foods. One of my favorite shows is Bizarre Foods with Andrew Zimmern. I'm so jealous of him. He gets to travel the world and try fantastic, exotic cuisine. I also love Good Eats. I enjoy growing and making my food rather than buying it from a grocery store, and I believe that a healthy diet begins with freshness. I also try to give only positive feedback and I would expect the same in return. One of my pet peeves are people who try something new and then blame the creator for not liking it. Or people who take a recipe, somehow make it wrong, and automatically blame the person who created it. Every recipe I shall post on here is tried and true, even with the pickiest of eaters, so I expect you shall have great fun making it and then watching it disappear. =)
