Barbecue or Oven Baked Pizza Bread

- 1 loaf French bread, halved lengthwise (20 inches)
- 453.59 g lean ground beef
- 2 (340.19 g) can tomato paste
- 9.85 ml white sugar or 9.85 ml brown sugar
- 59.14 ml stuffed olives, drained, sliced
- 118.29 ml fresh parmesan cheese, grated
- 14.79 ml fresh chives, snipped or 7.39 ml dried chives
- 4.92 ml salt (optional)
- 2.46 ml dried oregano
- 1.23 ml pepper
- 236.59 ml mozzarella cheese or 236.59 ml cheddar cheese, grated

FOR THE OVEN:
- Cut the loaf of French bread in half lengthwise. Place both halves on a greased baking sheet.
- Combine uncooked beef, tomato paste, sugar, olives, Parmesan cheese, chives, salt, oregano and pepper.
- Spread mixture to the edges of the cut surfaces of the bread.
- Bake uncovered in preheated 350 degree Fahrenheit oven for 25 minutes or until meat is well done.
- Top with mozzarella or cheddar cheese; return to oven for 5 minutes or until cheese melts.
- Cut into thick slices to serve.

FOR THE BARBECUE:
- Precook the hamburger; drain excess grease. Combine cooked meat with the remaining ingredients, including grated cheese.
- Spread the cooked meat mixture over the cut surfaces of the bread.
- Wrap each half in heavy-duty foil and heat until warm and cheeses are melted.
- Cut into thick slices to serve.

All the kids loved this. It was a little different, cooking the ground turkey in the oven. It came out really thick and hearty. I used Italian, mushrooms on one side instead of olives, dried minced onions (wanted to use green onions, but was too lazy!) and cheddar cheese. Might try cooking the meat first next time to see how it compares. My pepperoni lover wants pepperoni on top next time! :)

The last review I wrote seems to have gotten lost,so, here's a shorter version of it. I made this for two people so I had to make quite a bit less. The best way I thought to do this was not the bake the raw filling in the bread(because I was using buns). I cooked the meat and added the rest of the filling ingredients to it. I them filled the rolls, put on the cheese and wrapped the sandwich's in foil. With 10 mins at 400 degrees and the filling being hot they turned out wonderfully! I did skip the sugar and added garlic and basil. I think DH has a new favorite sandwich. It's kind of a Sloppy Luigi and the kids will love this!

<p>My pet peeve is people who spit gum on the sidewalk even if there is a trash bin a few feet away!! I have stepped in 'fresh' gum a couple of times!! </p>
