Bass Lake Fruit Smoothies

"This is my recipe for smoothies that I always use. We drank many of these while Holidaying at Bass Lake California, hence the name. My daughter loves these, and it's a great morning treat, especially before school, it helps get her moving! I let her choose what flavour she wants the night before, and bring it up to her while she's getting ready for School. The key is the vanilla yogourt, it gives it a great flavour."

  1. Well, when I first saw the title, I thought I was going to be in for one of those SNL Bass-o-matic jokes where you eat the blender and throw away the bass smoothie, but your recipe is fantastic. I live in 3rd world Philippines and had to substitute everything (except ice) in your recipe and it was still to die for. And threw in a couple of frozen bananas for good measure. Make sure you peel them before freezing. I froze everything including the can of tropical fruit cocktail. Open the can first. There's no frozen berries or frozen fruit here. And used Mango ice cream instead of yogurt. Thank you for a great recipe. I'm sure your daughter will remember the good times at Bass Lake and do the same for her children too.

  2. I made this today for a son who was home sick from school. He drank the whole glass down! The leftovers I made popsicles with. There was no way the 2 of us could drink all of the batch at one time! lol I did have to add a bit of sugar to make it a little sweeter. I make my own yogurt so it doesn't have the sugars added that the store bought has. I used orange juice and strawberries. Yummy! Made for the February 2010 Aussie/NZ recipe swap.

  3. I have made these several times since we had them at Bass Lake! These have the perfect flavor and are smooth and delicious! Thanks for posting your recipe Leslie.... although I watched you make them and even peeled the mango for ya, still helps to have the recipe in front of me ;) *YUM* my GO TO SMOOTHIE from now on. MWAH! ~V

  4. Excellent. Very tasty. A great morning treat when you don't want a heavy breakfast. In the afternoon, a good substitute for shakes. I was first introduced to this flavorful drink by chef Leslie herself at Bass Lake. Made these at home later. Yum, yum, yum. Thanks for the recipe.

  5. This is wonderful! I've never made a smoothie before so thought I'd give this a try. I used Ocean Spray's new cranberry and pomegranite juice (which is great) and some watermelon cubes I had frozen. Next time, I'll try blueberries. Thanks for a great recipe!! Made for New Kids on the Block tag game 2009.
