- 1 cup flour
- 1⁄2 cup granulated sugar
- 2 tablespoons cocoa
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄4 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄2 cup milk
- 2 tablespoons shortening, melted
- 1 cup finely chopped nuts
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1⁄4 cup cocoa
- 1 1⁄2 cups hot water
directions
- Heat oven to 350. Measure flour, granulated sugar, 2 Tbls cocoa, baking powder and salt into a bowl. Blend in milk and shortening; stir in nuts. Pour into ungreased 9x9 pan. Stir together brown sugar and ¼ cup cocoa. Sprinkle over batter. Pour HOT water over batter.
- Bake 45 minutes. While warm, spoon cake into dessert dishes and spoon sauce over each serving. If desired, serve with sweetened whipped cream or ice cream.
