Beef & Elbow Macaroni Casserole With Sour Cream

"Affectionately coined "Debbie's Casserole" in our household. Named after a family friend from church named Debbie N. This was a staple in our house and didn't last very long. My father in particular loved this recipe."

  1. I made your lovely recipe but used mozzarella instead of velveeta. I couldn't find any. It turned out beautifully. The perfect comfort dish. Thanks so much for sharing. made for What's on the Menu tag game.

  2. Very good but made the following changes: used ground turkey instead of beef, used a jar of store bought pasta sauce (what I had on hand) and used shredded mozzarella in place of the cheese slices. Turned out perfect and not too dry. My family loved it! Will make again.

  3. I sprinkled dried oregano on top before baking. It's very good!!

  4. I made this for supper tonight and it was a hit! I did substitute Rotel for the tomato sauce per the suggestion of another reviewer. I put the Rotel in the food processor so it would be smooth instead of chunky. Will definitely make this again!

  5. Not sure what I did wrong but this recipe seemed a bit dry. I did add a teaspoon of Italian seasoning to the meat sauce.

Tweaks

  3. This recipe called for all the ingredients I had, so I tried it and I'm glad we did! I made a few small changes; I used garlic powder instead of garlic salt, used a 15oz can of tomato sauce instead of 8oz, and used grated cheddar cheese instead of slices. I will be adding this one to my rotation and have shared it with my friends & family.

  4. I made this the other night and had my doubts because it didn't look that great in the casserole dish, but we were all pleasantly surprised! I substituted campanelle for the macaroni since we aren't big fans, and I used pre-sliced Cracker Barrel cheddar for the cheese slices. Light-tasting but packed a big punch in the flavor department. Thanks!
