Beer Ham

"This recipe was given to me by mt Aunt Therese. She has been using the recipe since she was married. The ham is so moist and tender, and fragrant, just try it and see. You will need to remove it from the pocket with great care as it tends to fall apart!"

directions

  • Scar ham and prick with whole cloves.
  • Make a large enough pocket out of aluminum foil to accomodate the ham.
  • Put the ham in the pocket, mix remaining ingredients together, and pour over the ham, then seal the pocket.
  • Place in a covered roasting pan, and bake at 400 degrees farenheit for approximately 1 hour per pound.
  • Even better though, place sealed aluminum pocket in your slow cooker, and cook on low for 8-10 hours.
  • The slow cooker is my preferred method.

  1. Bless you and your Aunt Therese, this ham was excellent. Very moist and flavorful! Even my youngest son ate it, and he doesn't care for ham. I fixed it in the oven, but next time I'd like to give the crock pot method a try. Thanks for sharing.

  2. I made this as the recipe called for,..it was very good and very tender.

  3. This was very good . . . juicy and tender. I used the crock pot, but somehow had a bit of a problem making a pocket with the aluminum foil. Some of the sauce leaked out. But I don't think it ruined the flavor, and it smelled great cooking. Thanks!

  4. Easy and sort of unusual-tasting. I used the oven since I don't have a crockpot, and I was in a hurry (!) so I didn't use the whole cloves but I added about 1/8 to 1/4 teaspoon ground cloves (for a 2 pound ham). Also, again because I was a little rushed, I only cooked it for about half of the recommended time - and it came out extremely tender, anyway (the ham was precooked so safety wasn't an issue). Great recipe for ham that's a "little different"! Thanks Midge Plourde (and your Aunt Therese)!

  5. I made this in the crockpot and it turned out well. I didn't put cloves in the ham but did everything else as stated. The family really enjoyed it and it was so simple to make. Thanks.
