  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Grease two 8-by-4-inch loaf pans.
  • In large bowl, with electric mixer at medium speed, cream butter, sugar, eggs, and orange peel until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in mashed bananas.
  • On waxed paper, combine flour, baking soda, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • At low speed, gradually add flour mixture, then buttermilk; beat just until smooth.
  • Stir in nuts and chocolate.
  • Evenly spoon into prepared pans.
  • Bake 1 hour, or until cake tester inserted in center comes out clean.

  1. This is the same basic recipe I've used for years and it always turns out well. I have learned to keep an eye on my oven temperature due to my old oven running hot early in it's life and cool at the end of it's life. Now with my convection oven I do it at 325 F with a metal loaf pan and 300 F with a glass loaf pan. Try adding some peanutbutter chips to the recipe...to die for!
     
  2. This bread is very heavy. We didn't care for it. One hour baking time is too long as mine got burnt on the edges. Will not be making this again.
