ingredients
- 2 cups flour
- 3 teaspoons baking powder
- 1⁄2 teaspoon salt
- 1⁄4 cup shortening
- 1 cup milk
directions
- Heat oven to 450.
- Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
- Cut shortening into mixture with pastry blender until mixture resembles fine crumbs.
- Stir in just enough milk to form a soft dough. Dough should leave the side of the bowl and round up into a ball.
- Too much milk will make the dough sticky and not enough milk will make biscuits dry.
- Turn dough onto lightly floured surface and need 10 to 15 strokes.
- Roll or pat to 1/2" thick. Cut with floured biscuit cutter.
- Place on baking sheet about an inch apart for crusty sides or let biscuits touch for soft sides.
- Bake on lightly greased pan for 15 minutes or until golden brown.
- Remove immediately from cookie sheet.

YUM!! these are some of the best biscuits I have ever made. light and fluffy, high and delicious! I too used butter, grated frozen butter; I didn't measure the milk, just added a little at a time until I got the right consistency. I didn't grease the cookie sheet, but I did brush the tops with a little melted butter, nice crisp on the outside and a gorgeous flaky light interior. Like you I just patted the dough into a round to cut out the biscuits. Just made them into 7 biscuits, 12 would have been very small. Thanks for posting a lovely recipe I will be making again!!

I made these biscuits based on the reviews, when I couldn't find my recipe and didn't want to call and wake my sister to get it from her. They were not good at all. They were heavy and tasteless, unless you consider the very prominent taste of baking powder. My kids wouldn't touch them and they are still sitting on their plates. My 4yr old daughter normally eats 2-3 biscuits when I make my recipe. I will definitely not be making these again.

I love to try new recipes, and this is a wonderful site to find new additions. I rarely make the same thing twice because it's so much fun to try something different. My life long dream is to travel the world and eat my way around it.
